What We Do

Regenerative Land Management

Holistic planned grazing is a land management system that mimics natural herd behavior by moving livestock frequently to small paddocks, allowing for long rest periods, which builds soil health, sequesters carbon, improves water cycles, and increases biodiversity by improving conditions for native grass species.

We accomplish this through the utilization of a variety of herding and electric fencing techniques. Our grazing approach allows us to concentrate animals more effectively to increase animal impact (herd effect), organic matter deposits, harvest efficiency, recovery periods for our grasslands and water infiltration.  We create growing and dormant season grazing plans and embrace EOV monitoring as an effective tool to measure ecological changes over time.

Low Stress Stockmanship and Animal Husbandry

Our experience has taken us to and from a variety of different landscapes ranging from short grass prairie to rugged mountain pastures. Therefore we adapt our methods to suit the environment. One thing that remains consistent is we understand the benefits of low stress stockmanship, that is, managing, moving, and handling animals in the most efficient way possible that works with their natural instincts and herd/flock behavior.

Food and Fiber Production

The core goal of our sheep enterprise is to produce New Mexico raised wool products, pelts, and lamb. We keep the hides from all of our animals that are processed; they are tanned using natural methods with no artificial chemicals. We shear our ewes once a year in the spring before lambing; this sheared wool is then turned into value added products such as blankets, hats, clothing, yarn, or sold directly to hand spinners. We market our lamb direct and also to local businesses such as co-ops, restaurants, and grocery stores. Our primary business model is direct to consumer sales. Our lamb contains no growth hormones, is pasture raised, grass fed and grass finished. If you are interested in any of our products reach out to us directly!

Custom Grazing

Another key element of our operation is contract grazing, this is a model of partnering with livestock owners to manage their animals on our leases for an agreed upon rate and length of time. This model allows us to adjust our stocking rate to suit the needs of the land, and to expand our impact. Our custom grazing operation involves running cattle on leased rangeland.
